In 2010 the award-winning Hatch Inn briefed us with a rebrand; this involved creating a new logo, building a website, and shooting photography of the pub’s premises, food, and drink. In 2015, The Hatch Inn approached us again, requesting an update of their site so that it was responsive with refreshed branding providing users with the option to book online and view menus across devices.
To start the process we began with wire-framing; this was based on research from analytics gathered from the previous site. We assessed areas that could have improved user-experience and those that resonated most with users; basing all development work on the findings from this. A focus was placed on creating clear UX, with easy access to the menu, reservations, and local attractions, to help with local SEO. Customer research highlighted the importance of simple enquiry forms, that could be used across all devices so we ensured this in our development of them.
Branding needed to immediately tell users searching the area for food that this was an award-winning restaurant, reflecting the high level of quality food served at The Hatch. Therefore a complementary colour scheme was chosen; grey to show sophistication, white to give a clean look, and black to bring contrast. A serif font was used for headings to carry on the sophisticated feel, whilst being highly readable for outdoor signage, this also gave a nod to the history of the pub and its founding in the 1400s. The simple sans-serif font used for paragraph text was sophisticated and clear for user experience.
We photographed the pub and its cuisines to really showcase their quality, taking a variety of shots to showcase exactly what the user could expect. These stunning photographs were then supported by the simple, modular layout of the site in the branding colours creating a contrast and letting the quality of the food really stand out. The images were then also used across print, to give a consistent quality brand image.
