The Hatch Inn

Beautiful pub food in the heart of Sussex

The Brief

We started the re-brand of the award-winning Hatch Inn in 2010 by creating a new logo and website build, where we were asked to shoot professional photos of the pub’s premise, food and drink for the site. At the end of 2015, The Hatch Inn approached us once again looking to update their site to bring a refreshed image and a responsive site which provides users with options to book online and view all menus.

Planning

As a second phase, in re-designing and re-building The Hatch Inn, we first looked at the analytics gathered from the previous site, looking at any areas for improvement with user-experience. We address which areas users were most popular and began wire-framing around this.

In re-designing the site, we focussed on creating clean UX whereby these was easy access to the menu, reservations and local attractions as the pub is situated in such a popular location.



We understood the importance of imagery in this industry, so used simple, modular layouts in the muted branding colours to allow the food to really speak for itself. We designed and developed simple enquiry forms so that users were able to easily reserve tables and ask questions on all devices.

Branding

For the branding, we develop a logo that resonated with an award-winning restaurant, looking to reflect the high level of quality food served at The Hatch. It was important that the pubs name was highly readable for outdoor signage, and to include the pub’s historic background, so we use a muted, complimentary colour scheme to really stand out against the black background.

We used simple fonts which gave a nod to the history of the pub and its founding in the 1400s through the main serif font. In the site’s re-design in 2015, we let the branding really lead the way in create a simple, yet striking site.

Photography

wBack in 2010, we photographed the pub and its cuisines to really showcase the quality. This involved us setting the composition of the images, shooting them and editing afterwards in order to produce high quality images which could be used throughout the site and on all forms of marketing. We took a variety of shots to help give a rounded perspective of what the user should expect.
